Tiger Cubs

The Tiger Cub program is for first-grade (or age 7) boys and their adult partners. There are five Tiger Cub achievement areas. The Tiger Cub, working with his adult partner, completes 15 requirements within these areas to earn the Tiger Cub badge. These requirements consist of an exciting series of indoor and outdoor activities just right for a boy in the first grade.

The Tiger Cub program is unique in that every Tiger must have an adult accompanying him on his adventures in Scouting. The adult does not necessarily need to be one of his parents but can be a grandparent, older brother or sister, or a very good family friend. Regardless, it is someone that serves as that boy’s adult partner. The adult partner must be at least 18 years of age.

With the help of the Tiger Cub Den Leader, the actual Tigers and their adult partners join in the adventures of the Tiger Cub Den. In our area there is a wealth of things to do for Tigers. Our Tigers have visited a farm, a fire station, an ambulance service, a hockey game, a television station, and a wildlife park.

Tigers meet once a week for their Den meetings, plus once a month for a Go See It activity if needed. They also attend the monthly Pack meeting.

Tigers earn belt loops after completing their Bobcat and Tiger patches. This gives them something to coordinate with their activities of the Tiger Cub Den such as Marbles, Bowling, or anyone of the 38 academic and sports choices.

All Tiger Cubs along with the Tiger Cub Den Leaders should wear the blue Cub Scout Shirt, orange neckerchief and Tiger Cub hat. The Den Leader sets the example for the Tiger Den.

When Tigers first start their program, they should all have a copy of the Tiger Cub Handbook, the program should be explained to them, they should exchange each Tiger Cub/Adult Partner contact information, and they should review the program together to discuss what activities each Tiger Cub and Adult Partner want to consider for their leadership involvement in the overall Tiger Den program. They should be ready to have FUN!

Once a Tiger has learned the Cub Scout Motto, Sign, and Salute, he earns his Immediate Recognition Emblem to wear on his shirt. Through his progress towards his Tiger rank, he will earn 5 white beads for family activities, 5 orange beads for Den activites, and 5 black beads for Go See It activities. Upon completion of these 15 beads, he will earn his Tiger rank. He can continue to earn one yellow bead for completing 10 electives in the Tiger handbook, and there are 50 electives available.
