We are always welcoming new Scouts to join us. Please attend one of our Tuesday Den or Sunday Pack meetings and see for yourself how fun Scouting and Pack 116 can be!
We feel very strongly about "keeping the Outing in Scouting", and we try to hold overnight family campouts every two months. (No, we don't camp in the snow -- we leave that for the Boy Scouts!) We also like to participaite in parades, district events, and community service projects.
Scouting is a family-centered activity. As such, we always include family in our activities. At each weekly Den meeting, we prefer that at least one parent or guardian attends with their Scout to help him along his advancement trail. For our monthly Pack meetings and Campouts, the entire family is invited. Each Scout and his family should bring their own tent and camping gear.
We also understand that boys may have seasonal activities that conflict with weekly meetings. We believe that while these activies may come and go, Scouting will be with you forever. Therefore, we would rather have you stay in Scouting, but feel comfortable to pursue football, hockey, baseball, or wherever your interests lie. Scouting will still be here for you. Your Den leader will help you and your parents along your advancement trail.
How much does it cost? Our typical dues have been $40.00 per calendar year, as our charter covers from January 1st to December 30th. The $40.00 dues includes annual registration with the Boy Scouts of America ($10.00), Boys Life magazine subscription ($12.00), and $18.00 for Den activities. The Dues also cover the Scout's first handbook, neckerchief, and slide. Camping and other activies are paid separately near the time of the event. Last year's district Day Camp was about $120 for the week.
In the 2009-2010 year, we hope to fully fund the program year by selling Trails End popcorn. If we are able to meet our goals, then boys who participiated in the sales may have their dues and other fees covered! It is important for boys to learn how to earn their own way through Scouting, and Trails End popcorn is an excellent tool.
