The first rank that every Cub Scout must earn is their Bobcat. Regardless of the age or den that a Scout starts in (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos), he must earn his Bobcat before advancing to his next rank.

To earn the Bobcat rank, the Scout must complete 8 activities:

• Cub Scout Promise
• Law of the Pack
• The Meaning of Webelos
• Cub Scout Sign
• Cub Scout Handshake
• Cub Scout Motto
• Cub Scout Salute
• "A Bobcat requirement" in the front of the Handbook.
